About the school
The University of Bristol Veterinary School is ranked #30 globally (QS 2025) and holds dual accreditation from RCVS and AVMA — meaning Bristol graduates can practise in the USA without additional examinations.
The 5-year BVSc programme uses a dual campus model: Bristol city (years 1–2) and Langford in Somerset (~15 miles south), a rural campus with on-site hospitals, equine, farm, and small animal facilities. Approximately 150 places per year.
Academic requirements and interview format verified against bristol.ac.uk/vet-science (April 2026). International fees from published 2024-25 prospectus — subject to annual revision. Langford campus information from official vet school website. All figures should be verified at bristol.ac.uk before applying.
Campus & Facilities
Bristol Vet School is based at the Langford Campus in North Somerset, 20 km south of Bristol city centre. The 360-hectare rural campus includes:
- Langford Vets — a full-service teaching hospital with specialist referral services (small animal, equine, farm animal, exotics).
- Working farm (dairy cattle, sheep, pigs)
- Equine centre and isolation facilities
- New purpose-built teaching labs (opened 2020)
First-year students typically live in halls near the Clifton campus in Bristol before moving to Langford for clinical years. Bristol city (15 min by train) offers world-class music, food, and culture.
Academic requirements
- A-levels: AAA — Biology and Chemistry required; third subject preferably another science (Physics, Maths, or Psychology also accepted).
- GCSE: B grade (6) or above in Mathematics, English Language, and a science subject.
- No UCAT/BMAT required for Bristol Vet School.
- International Baccalaureate: 36 points, 6,6,6 at Higher Level (Biology + Chemistry compulsory).

Work experience
Bristol expects applicants to have completed at least 70 hours of relevant work experience covering a mix of species. Recommended species groups:
- Small animals (companion practice)
- Farm animals (cattle, sheep, pigs)
- Equine (ideally with a vet present)
- Zoo, wildlife, research, or abattoir (optional but valued)
Experience does not need to be with a vet — hands-on animal husbandry, farm work, or volunteering at an animal shelter all count. Reflection on your experiences matters more than the total hours.
