Admission Guide

1. 1. Verify eligibility

   Check that your NSC/A-Levels/IB/Bac meets Maths, Physical Sciences and English 60%+ (or equivalent). Confirm you can obtain a USAf Matriculation Exemption Certificate.

2. 2. Open UP online application (from April)

   Applications open on 1 April of the year preceding intake. Create your account on the UP online application portal.

3. 3. Complete the VSVAF

   Fill in the Veterinary Science Value Added Form documenting animal experience, community work, leadership and motivation. Attach supporting evidence.

4. 4. Upload academic transcripts and passport

   Certified Grade 11 (conditional) and final school results, transcripts translated into English if needed, and a passport bio page.

5. 5. English proficiency test (if required)

   Submit IELTS 6.5+ or TOEFL iBT 88+ scores unless secondary schooling was in English.

6. 6. Submit before 31 May - strict

   The BVSc closing date is one month earlier than other UP programmes. Late applications are not considered under any circumstances.

7. 7. Selection decision (Aug-Nov)

   Selectors review academic merit and VSVAF; a small number of candidates may be called for additional tests or interview. Conditional offers issued from August.

8. 8. USAf Matriculation Exemption

   Non-NSC international applicants apply to Universities South Africa for the Full Matriculation Exemption Certificate - takes 4-8 weeks.

9. 9. Pay the R40,000 first payment

   Non-SADC international students must pay ZAR 40,000 (~EUR 2,050) as a first payment BEFORE registration is possible.

10. 10. Study visa and OP Village accommodation

    Apply for a South African study visa via VFS Global in your home country (allow 8-12 weeks). Apply for OP Village Residence via the UP portal if you want on-campus housing from year 2.
