About the school
The UAX Degree in Veterinary Medicine is an official qualification (verified by ANECA and registered in the RUCT) spanning 5 years / 300 ECTS, taught at the Villanueva de la Cañada campus (Madrid). In 2023 the faculty obtained EAEVE Accreditation, becoming the first private university in Madrid to earn this European standard.
UAX operates under a One Health approach and a hands-on learning model ("Makers Model") in which Veterinary students work alongside students from other degree programmes on real-world challenges set by partner companies.
The university, founded in 1992, was the first private university authorised by the Spanish Parliament. The faculty has over 25 years of experience in veterinary education.

Campus & Facilities
The main campus is in Villanueva de la Cañada (Avda. Universidad 1, 28691), about 30 km west of Madrid, accessible by public transport and a shuttle bus from the city. UAX also has a campus in central Madrid (Chamberí), although the Veterinary Medicine degree is taught entirely in Villanueva de la Cañada.
The UAX Veterinary Teaching Hospital spans more than 7,000 m² and treats over 9,000 patients per year across small and large animal species. The EAEVE highlighted it as one of the most technologically advanced veterinary clinical facilities in Europe. Students rotate through its specialities from the early years of the programme and train in advanced simulation environments.
Academic requirements
- Completed Bachillerato or equivalent (higher vocational qualification, university degree, etc.).
- Entry does not depend on an EBAU cut-off score: admission is by the UAX's own profile assessment, entrance test and/or personal interview.
- Official qualification verified by ANECA, valid in Spain and across the EU.
Work experience
Prior animal experience is not compulsory, but experience with animals (clinical, farming, volunteering) is viewed positively in the admissions process and interview.
