About the school
The ULPGC Faculty of Veterinary Medicine was established in 1986 (Canarian Official Gazette, 17 October 1986) and began operating in early 1987. Initially part of the University of La Laguna, it joined the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in September 1989. It is the only Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the Canary Islands.
The Veterinary Medicine degree (introduced in 2010/11) is an official qualification that entitles graduates to practise throughout the EU (Directive 2005/36/EC). The Faculty has participated in EAEVE European evaluation (first evaluation in 2000; positive evaluation in 2009). Check the current EAEVE accreditation status at vet.ulpgc.es.
Teaching is delivered in Spanish.
Verified at vet.ulpgc.es and notasdecorte/educaweb, June 2026. Fees and cut-off score subject to annual revision. Current EAEVE accreditation status: verify at vet.ulpgc.es.
Campus & Facilities
The Faculty is located on the University Campus of Cardones, in the municipality of Arucas (Gran Canaria), where it moved in the late 1990s from its original site in the Zárate district of Las Palmas.
It has a Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The Canary Islands island setting offers unique opportunities in animal health, exotic species medicine and marine fauna — resources rarely available at mainland faculties.
