About the school

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of León is one of Spain's oldest. It was founded as the Escuela Subalterna de Veterinaria by Royal Order of 16 March 1852, making it the fourth veterinary teaching centre in the country, after Madrid (1788/1792) and Córdoba and Zaragoza (1847).

Its Veterinary Medicine degree is EAEVE-accredited; the faculty renewed its European accreditation in May 2024, and its Veterinary Hospital was assessed in March 2024 with an excellent rating. The qualification entitles graduates to practise as veterinarians throughout the EU (Directive 2005/36/EC).

Teaching is delivered in Spanish.
