SHOC 2026 Participatory Count
SHOC is a participatory survey coordinated by LPO and MNHN that mobilises volunteers to census common bird populations wintering in France. Each year, observers conduct two standardised counts (December and January) on fixed study squares, tracking the evolution of migratory and resident species. This approach, complementary to the spring STOC programme, provides essential data on winter survival, which is critical for spring breeding. Joining SHOC means contributing to long-term citizen science established since 2014.
