Participate in Harrier Monitoring and Protection in Aude in 2027
For over four decades, LPO Occitanie has mobilized volunteers to protect ground-nesting harriers in Aude, a threatened species that builds nests in cultivated fields. From mid-April to July, volunteers patrol Lauragais audois and the Piège hills to locate nests and coordinate their protection against agricultural machinery during harvests. This observation mission requires little experience but considerable vigilance: every additional pair of eyes increases the chances of saving nests in danger. Without this regular human intervention, the species would have already disappeared.
